Akaka
Falls State Park is located about thirteen miles north of the city
of Hilo on the Hamakua Coast of the
Big Island of Hawaii. To reach the park, take Hwy 11 to the intersection with Hwy 220 (Akaka Falls Road) and head west. The loop trail around the park is less than a half mile long with easy to navigate concrete walkways and stairs. Start the loop by walking to the right and you'll first reach the 100 foot high waterfall known as Kahuna Falls and then later the 422 foot high main attraction known as Akaka Falls. Visitors are welcome at the park every day of the year and the entrance fee is $5 per vehicle or $1 per pedestrian. Hawaii residents may enter the park free of charge. |

Some of the
amenities of the park include restrooms, water fountains, picnic tables,
public telephones and walking trails.
If your GPS unit doesn't have Akaka Falls State Park listed in the points of interest menu, set your GPS for the intersection of Akaka Falls Rd and Highway 22 (also known as Hwy 220). |
