| One of the
biggest highlights of our ten day trip to the
Big Island of Hawaii
was going on the Safari Helicopters Deluxe Volcano & Coastline
Safari Tour. The total cost was $179 per person. I booked the tour online at the Safari Helicopters website for a flight time later in the week. We received a call from them later that same day asking if we could take the tour the next morning instead to fill in a last minute cancellation. We were promised front row seats in the helicopter (pending weight calculations), so we jumped on the opportunity and adjusted our plans. During the 50-55 minutes of flight time, we saw tropical rainforests, volcanic cinder cones, volcano craters, bright red glowing lava, fields of lava rock, Mauna Kea mountain, Mauna Loa mountain, waterfalls on the Wailuku River and Hilo Bay. |

| Safari Helicopters is located in the Commuter Terminal at the Hilo Airport just before the main terminal on Airport Access Road. To reach the Hilo Airport using a GPS unit, find it in the POI (points of interest) database by entering the "ITO" airport code. Alternatively, set your GPS for the intersection of Hwy 11 (A.K.A. Hawaii Belt Rd or Mamalahoa Hwy) and Airport Road in Hilo, HI 96720. | ||
