| This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 8th generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, & 2011) Honda
Civic in cleaning or replacing the HVAC system's cabin air filter
element. Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Element, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, RL, TL. TSX, ZDX, MDX, and RDX may also find these instructions to be helpful. A few compatible replacement filters with their part numbers include the: Fram CF10134, Purolator C35519, Wix 24815, K&N VF2001, TYC 800003P, ACDelco CF159, and Beck Arnley 042-2023. No tools are needed to complete this procedure. The first step is to get into the front passenger seat of the car and open up the glove box.
| | ||
| Release Rubber Side Stops | Lower Glove Box To Floor | Push In On Side Tabs |
| Then pull inwards
on both side walls of the glove box to release the rubber stops on each side
of the glove box. When the rubber stops are clear, you can lower the glove box to the passenger floorboard. Behind the glove box, you'll see the blower motor housing and the rectangular black plastic cabin air filter cover.
| Release Cover Clips | Slide Out Filter Tray | |
| To remove the cabin
air filter element and tray, push in on the two side tabs that secure it to
the blower motor housing. Then slide the tray straight out. To separate the filter element from the black plastic tray, pull or push the element upwards out of the tray.
|
| ||
| Cabin Air Filter Tray | Blower Motor Housing | Push Out Old Filter |
| If your old cabin
air filter isn't too filthy, you may be able to knock out the large debris
and just re-install it in the tray. I recommend buying the Fram CF10134 "Fresh Breeze" since it has excellent reviews on Amazon. I also like how it has Arm & Hammer baking soda and carbon in the filter to keep the A/C system from smelling musty or moldy. When replacing the cabin air filter, be sure to take note of the "Air Flow" markings on the element.
| Slide In Air Filter Tray | "Click" Back In Place | Raise Glove Box |
| With the new or
cleaned cabin air filter back in the black plastic tray, slide it back into
the slot in the blower motor housing until the two side tabs "click" into
place. Double check that the tray is securely in the blower motor housing before raising up the glove box. To re-attach the glove box, push inwards on both sides while simultaneously raising the rubber stops back into place. Close the glove box to complete the job.
