This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 8th generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, & 2011) Honda
Civic in replacing the third or "high mount" brake light bulb. Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Element, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, RL, TL. TSX, ZDX, MDX, and RDX may also find these instructions to be helpful. A replacement high mount stop light bulb from Sylvania and other manufacturers is part number 7440. If you would like to have a brighter 3rd brake light, install a compatible 7440 LED bulb. No tools are needed to replace the bulb. The first step is to open the trunk and locate the bulb's socket underneath the rear deck lid in between the speakers. |

To remove the
bulb's socket from the third brake light housing, rotate it 1/4 turn counter
clockwise and pull it straight out.
Then pull the old # 7440 bulb straight out from the socket and push in a new bulb. If you would like a brighter third brake light, buy one of the 7440 LED bulbs. Insert the new bulb and socket back into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Test the new bulb by having someone step on the brakes.
