Red
Reef Beach Park Snorkeling Photos - Boca Raton, FL
Underwater pictures, a review & visitor info from a snorkeling trip to Red Reef
Beach Park in Boca Raton, Florida.
After
having visited the beaches of Boca Raton many times in the past, we
finally remembered to bring our snorkeling gear in order to check
out the ocean life at Red Reef Park. I also brought along my old Canon SD700 IS digital camera with its Canon WP-DC5 underwater case. We weren't expecting to see much at Red Reef since some of the most recent traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, Yelp and Google Maps claimed that the reef had been buried under sand to extend the beach. When we arrived on a weekday morning, we spotted at least a handful of people snorkeling by the rocks just a few yards into the water near the middle section of Red Reef Beach. I was impressed with how many fish inhabited the relatively small Red Reef including schools of colorful Sergeant fish with yellow stripes. |

The fees to park in Red Reef Beach Park's expansive parking lot are $16 per car on regular weekdays and $18 per car on weekends or legal holidays.
If you live in the city of Boca Raton, you can obtain an annual parking pass for about $30 by visiting the Boca Raton Community Center, Sugar Sand Park Community Center, City Hall or the James A. Rutherford Community Center at Patch Reef Park.
Since our beach parking pass from when we lived in Boca Raton has long since expired, we now usually visit the Boca Raton beach parks (Spanish River, Red Reef & South Beach) early on weekday mornings when free street parking on Palmetto Park Road is much easier to find.
We did see a few jellyfish during our snorkeling trip in Red Reef Park, but they were easily avoided. Be sure to check the information boards at the lifeguard stands if you are concerned about swimming with jellyfish. I may have collided my forearm with one of them while snapping pictures of the fish and I didn't suffer any ill effects from the incident.
The 67 acre ocean front Red Reef Park is located at 1400 North State Road A1A, Boca Raton, FL 33431. To reach the park rangers by phone, call (561) 393-7974. Visitors are welcome at the park from 8 AM to 10 PM every day of the year.
Some of the other features of Red Reef Park include nature trails, designated fishing areas, picnicking areas, barbeque grills, tables, restrooms and the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.
