This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and possibly also the updated 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Ford Edge SUV in replacing the light bulb in the rear cargo or trunk area.

Owners of other Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicles such as the Taurus, Fiesta, Fusion, Focus, Mustang, Flex, Ranger, F-150, Escape, Explorer, Expedition, MKZ, MKX, MKS, MKT, Navigator, Milan, Mariner, Mountaineer, Grand Marquis & Town Car may also find this guide to be helpful.

The bulb in the rear cargo area light housing is part # 578 from Sylvania and other manufacturers.

If you would like to have a brighter cargo area light, install a compatible replacement 578 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to remove the rear cargo / trunk area light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

A butter knife, coin, car key or other similar item may also work as well.

Push In New Bulb
Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch at the front edge of the light housing.

Gently pry out the light housing and remove it from the plastic cargo area panel.

If the old light bulb was recently illuminated, be careful when you remove it since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.

Push in a new number 578 bulb.

(Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try flipping it around in the socket.)

Testing New Bulb
Re-insert the wires first and then gently pop light housing back in to the cargo area plastic panel.

Test the new cargo area light bulb by pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob to activate the interior lights.
