Florida during the UF vs. UM college football game. A few of my Gator alumni friends and I drove up from the Ft. Lauderdale area to watch the #5 (1-0) University of Florida Gators beat the University of Miami Hurricanes at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, a.k.a. "The Swamp". Unfortunately, we also had one 'Canes fan in our group who insisted on constantly reminding us that "it's all about the U". But he was much quieter on the ride home after the Gators won the game 26 points to 3. Of course, our Hurricanes fan friend had good reason to be confident before the game since the Gators haven't won against the 'Canes in 23 years. But then again there were only 6 games spread out in that span of over two decades. |

The last time I went to a college football game was the Gators Vs. Troy State game in 2007 when I only had a compact Canon digital camera. For this game I lugged along my new Canon S5 IS so that I could use its excellent 12X zoom lens and stereo sound video mode to better capture the experience.

While all of us joined together to sing "We Are The Boys From Old Florida", I noticed that the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is sponsored by Shands Hospital, Publix Supermarkets, and SunTrust Banks. |

I'm hoping to make it back up to Gainesville again for one of the other home games this season. The Gators will be playing the following teams at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium: the Ole Miss Rebels (9/27), the LSU Tigers (10/11), the Kentucky Wildcats (10/25), the South Carolina Gamecocks (11/15), and the Citadel Bulldogs (11/22).

I captured a series of short video clips during the game from my seat up in the 65th row and edited them together into a quick highlight reel. The movie is encoded in the Windows Media (WMV) format, runs about 5 minutes long, and has a file size of about 50mb (megabytes). To watch it, just click on the link below. To save the video to your hard drive, right click and choose "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" depending on which web browser you are using. |
