This automotive how-to guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2003 to 2006 Ford Expedition SUV in replacing a burnt out overhead map light bulb.

Owners of other similar Ford vehicle models such as the Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Lightning, Excursion, Escape, Bronco, and Sport Trac may also find these instructions to be useful.

Replacement overhead map light bulbs from Sylvania and other manufacturers are part # 2825.

If you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time, I recommend buying the long life bulbs with "LL" in their part number.

Or you could choose a brighter and even longer lasting 2825 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to complete this procedure is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

A coin, small key, or credit card may also work if you don't have a flathead screwdriver handy.

To access the overhead map light bulb, you'll need a small flathead screwdriver to pry open the hinged light cover.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in between the rear of the lens cover and the overhead console.

Don't pry the cover on the side as I first attempted.

The lens cover hinges open at the front of vehicle so you need to pry it open at the point closest to the rear of the SUV.

Re-Install Bulb & Base
Once the cover is opened, you'll see the black plastic base of the bulb.

To remove it from the socket, turn the base 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out.

Then wiggle the # 2825 light bulb out of the base and push in a new bulb.

If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the number 158, 168, W5W, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

Insert the bulb & base into the socket and turn it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it.

Test the new bulb by clicking the clear cylindrical button located at the rear of the opening.

Then raise the clear lens cover and gently push it back into place while placing pressure on the clear plastic tab.
