This "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the Acer Aspire AS1410 11.6" laptop computer in removing the two 1 GB RAM memory modules and replacing them with higher capacity units such as two 2 GB sticks (total of 4 GB).

Owners of other similar laptops such as the Acer Aspire AS1430, AS1830, AS1551, AS1810 or netbooks such as the Acer Aspire One A0721, AOD255, and AO532 may also find this guide to be helpful.

My Acer Aspire AS1410-2285 came equipped with two 1GB 2Rx16 PC2 5300S DDR2 667 Mhz sticks of RAM for a total of 2 GB of system memory. I'd like to replace these with two 2GB modules.

The only tools needed to complete this RAM upgrade procedure are a small Phillips, a flathead screwdriver and an anti-static wrist strap.

Two RAM Modules
A few of the compatible 2 GB RAM modules for the Acer Aspire AS1410 include the following: Crucial CT1018777 (DDR2 PC2-6400 800 Mhz), Crucial CT1018776 (DDR2 PC2-5300 667 Mhz), and the Kingtson KAC-MEMF/2G.

The first steps are to put down a soft towel or t-shirt, turn the laptop or netbook upside down, and locate the large black plastic RAM cover in the center of the computer. Be sure to discharge your static electricity by touching something metal or wear an anti-static wrist strap before touching the computer.

Unscrew the four Phillips head screws until the cover is loose. The screws will stay attached to the plastic panel, so don't try to forcibly remove them. Lift up the panel using the small indentation located on the middle of the "L" shaped side of the cover.

Under the cover, you'll find the two 1 GB sticks of RAM. They are each held in place by two metal and plastic RAM clips that lock into notches on the sides of the modules.

To release the RAM modules, use the small flathead screwdriver to pry the two RAM clips outwards from the notches.

The RAM modules should spring upwards by themselves at a 30 degree angle from the motherboard.

Gently grasp the sticks of RAM with your thumb and forefinger and lift them away from their sockets.

Discharge your static electricity again by touching something made of metal before touching the new 2GB sticks of RAM.

Look at the new sticks of RAM and the RAM sockets before inserting them in.

They will only go in one way, so do not try to force them in.

Slide in the new RAM modules at about a 30 degree angle and then gently push them down until the two RAM clips snap into place on the notches on each side.

Windows Loading Up
When you're satisfied that the new RAM is installed securely, screw on the black plastic cover and re-install the computer's battery.

Right now my Acer Aspire AS1410 is running Windows XP SP3 which will only recognize 3 GB of system memory.

It was originally loaded with Windows 7 that I plan on restoring in order to utilize the full 4 GB of the new RAM.

If you're laptop or netbook won't turn on, try removing and carefully reseating the RAM modules.

Sometimes a loose connection can cause the computer to not boot up.

If it still won't work after a few tries, re-install the old RAM to see if the new RAM could be defective or incompatible.
