This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Nissan Murano SUV in cleaning or changing the A/C system's cabin air filter element located in the HVAC blower motor housing.

Owners of other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles such as the Versa, Maxima, Juke, Rogue, Altima, Xterra, Pathfinder, Sentra, Cube, Armada, Leaf, Quest, Frontier, Teana, 370Z, GT-R, Titan, G25, G37, M35, QX56, QX60 and M37 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement cabin filters with their part numbers are as follows: TYC 800107P, Purolator C45871, Fram CF11173, ATP RA-99, Luber-finer CAF1848P, Wix 24400, Hastings AFC1356, Mahle LA 768, GKI CF1168, Pentius PHB5871, Ecogard XC45871, OEM CAF226P, Magneti Marelli by Mopar 1AMFC00022 and Denso 453-5016.

No tools are needed to access and replace the filter.

Push Up Release Tab
The cabin air filter housing is located in the front passenger foot well behind the left kick panel.

Gently pull the kick panel straight off the center console to disengage the plastic pop rivet friction fasteners and set it aside in a safe place.

Push up the black plastic release tab at the lower edge of the rectangular shaped filter access cover.

Swing open the bottom edge of the cabin filter cover and pull out the tab at the top edge from its slot.

Set the filter access panel aside in a safe place.

Old Filter In Slot
Carefully Pull Out Old Filter
Old Filter Removed
Carefully slide the old filter out of the slot.

You may need to compress the filter a bit and pull it down past the obstructions.

Clean With Vacuum
Empty Filter Slot
Gently Insert New Filter
If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum.

On the other hand, if the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, pollen, leaves, twigs, insects, hair or other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the TYC 800107P cabin air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

If the new filter has an "Air Flow" arrow, make sure it is pointing towards the rear of the vehicle.

Compress the new filter and carefully slide it in to the slot.

New Filter Installed
Line Up Filter Cover
Gently Push On Retaining Clip
Double check that the new filter is properly installed.

Re-insert the tab at the top edge of the filter cover in to its slot.

Gently push on the bottom edge of the filter cover to secure the retaining clip.

Line Up Kick Panel Cover
Push In Pop Rivets
Kick Panel Replaced
Line up the pop rivets on the back side of the kick panel with their corresponding holes on the center console.

Push the kick panel back in place and firmly tap in the pop rivets.

Enjoy the fresh clean air from your A/C system!
