The passenger side automatic sliding door of this 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan became jammed when a plastic shopping bag wrapped up into the mechanism. It would not open or close with the key fob or overhead console buttons and was nearly impossible to move by hand.

The only tool needed to complete this procedure is a standard Phillips head screwdriver.

Remove the screws by turning them in the counterclockwise direction with the Phillips head screwdriver.

Pull off the black plastic cover to expose the black metal gear and the sliding door's electric motor.

Set the black plastic cover aside in a safe place.

Make sure that no one is near the buttons for the sliding doors or either of the key fobs while you are removing the debris causing the jam.

For even more safety, you may choose to disconnect the "-" negative battery terminal.

Carefully remove whatever debris was "eaten" by your minivan's sliding door such as a plastic bag, shoelaces, paper, leaves, twigs, sticks, fabric, clothing, etc.

If you have trouble removing the debris, very carefully move the sliding door forward or backwards by hand a tiny bit before re-attempting to pull out the material.

Open and close the door a few times by hand to help spread the lubricant all over the gear and tracks.
