If your Elantra has the Kappa 1.4L I4 or the Gamma 1.6L turbo I4 engine, consult the Amazon Part Finder website before you purchase a new filter.

No tools are needed to access and replace the engine air filter element.

The first two steps are to open the hood and then move to the right (driver) side of the engine bay.

The black plastic rectangular shaped engine air filter housing is situated in front of the 12V automotive battery, to the left of the fuse box and behind the driver side headlight housing.

One latch is on the front right corner of the air box and the second latch is located on the right rear corner.

Flip the two metal latches down and away from air box cover to release them.

Slide the two plastic tabs on the left side of the cover out of the slots on the lower half of the air box.

Inspect both sides of the old air filter.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, sand, hair, pollen, soot, leaves, insects and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

If the old filter looks relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a wet/dry shop vacuum.

I recommend buying the Premium Guard PA99194 engine air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Hyundai / Kia engine air filter in this 2018 Elantra was part number Leehan 28113-F2000.

Orientate the new air filter with the pleats facing down and the rubber gasket facing up towards you.

Lower the new filter down into the bottom half of the air box.

Lower the air box cover down towards the bottom half.

Slide the two tabs on the left side of the air box cover into their corresponding slots on the bottom half of the air box.

Swing down the right side of the air box cover to close it.

Double check that the two halves of the air box are flush together with no part of the new filter visible at the edges.

Be sure to write down the filter change in your vehicle's service records.

The service interval specification listed in the owner's manual states that the engine air filter should be changed every 22,500 miles or at least every 36 months (or 36,000 Kilometers).
