A few compatible replacement cabin air filters with their part numbers are as follows: Premium Guard PC99239, TYC 800189P, Pentius PHB1381 and Denso 453-6006.

No tools are required to access and replace the filter.

The first few steps are to sit in the front passenger seat, open the glove box and empty out the contents.

Then move to the right outer side of the glove box and locate the black plastic damper arm.

Move to the inside of the glove box and locate the two round black plastic side stoppers.

Rotate the handle on the side stoppers 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling them straight out of the side walls of the glove box.

Gently lower the glove down towards the floor mat.

The plastic hinges that attach the glove box may come apart from the dashboard as you lower the glove box. They can easily be re-attached later on.

Once the glove box has been lowered, you will be able to see the rectangular shaped black plastic cabin air filter access cover.

Pinch together the two tabs on the right side of the cover and pinch together the two tabs on the left side of the cover to release the retaining clips.

Once the filter cover is out of the way, you'll be able to see the white outer edge of the old cabin air filter.

Inspect the filter slot for any large debris such as leaves, twigs or insects.

If you have a crevice attachment for your wet/dry shop vacuum, clean out the filter slot in the HVAC blower motor housing.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, sand, insects, pollen, soot, hair, twigs and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the Premium Guard PC99239 cabin air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon from other Hyundai Elantra owners.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum cleaner.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cabin air filter was marked as Hyundai / Kia part number 97133-F2000.

Slide the new air filter straight into the slot.

Make sure the new filter is fully seated in the HVAC blower motor housing.

Gently push on the filter cover until you feel or hear the two retaining clips "click" securely into place.

Double check that the filter cover is secure.

Move to the right outer side wall of the glove box.

Slightly raise the glove box until the openings in the side walls are past the dashboard.

Replace the contents of your glove box such as the owner's manual, registration, insurance card and that huge stack of Starbucks or McDonald's napkins.

Close the glove box to complete the job.

Be sure to write down the filter change in your vehicle's service records.

Enjoy the fresh clean air from your A/C system!

The service interval specification for changing the cabin air filter is every 7,500 miles (12,000 KM) or at least every 12 months.
