This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Volkswagen Tiguan SUV in changing a burnt out side marker light bulb located in the housing attached to the front quarter panel and bumper cover near the wheel well housing and the tire.

Owners of other VW or Audi vehicles such as the Jetta, Passat, CC, Atlas, Touareg, Golf, Beetle, A3, S3, RS 3, A4, S4, A5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS 7, A8, Q3, Q5, TT and Q7 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2821 (also known as # W3W).

You could also use a brighter 2821 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the side marker light bulb is a Torx T-25 star bit screwdriver.

Pull Out Rubber Socket
The first step is to move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out side marker light.

The side marker light housing is located on the front bumper cover near the front tire's wheel well and the front quarter panel.

Remove the single screw that holds the black plastic access cover in place by turning it counterclockwise with a Torx T25 star bit screwdriver.

Set the screw aside in a safe place.

Gently swing open the hinged access flap up towards the top of the wheel well.

Locate the black rubber light bulb socket.

Gently pull the rubber light bulb socket straight out of the housing.

You may need to wiggle or slightly twist the bulb socket to detach it.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it from the socket. It might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.

Push a new number 2821 light bulb straight into the socket. (It is also known as part # W3W.)

If you would like to have brighter side marker lights, install some compatible 2821 LED bulbs.
