VW Passat
Windshield Wiper Blades Replacement Guide
How to change the windshield window wiper
blades on a 2012 to 2015 Volkswagen Passat with the part numbers.
Turn Key To "On" Position |
Turn "Off" Ignition Switch |
This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the NMS (new midsize sedan) 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and the
revised 2016 Volkswagen Passat sedan in changing the front
windshield window wiper blades. Owners of other VW Group vehicles such as the Beetle, CC, Tiguan, Golf, Touareg, Jetta, GTI, SportWagen, Eos, Rabbit, Bora, Vento, Lavida, Coccinelle, Maggiolino, Fusca, Audi A3, A4, S4, A6, S6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, A5, S5, and TT may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The OEM wiper blade sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 24" and Passenger Side 19". A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers include the following: Bosch 24OE & Bosch 19OE, Rain-X 5079280-2 & Rain-X 5079276-2, Trico 25-240 & Trico 25-190, PIAA 97060 & PIAA 97048 and AERO 24" + 19". |

Wiper Service Position |
To place the
windshield wiper arms in to the "service position" so you can replace the
blades, follow these steps. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position but do not start the engine. Turn the ignition to "Off". Quickly press the windshield wiper lever down one time. The wiper arms should swing up and stay in the service position. |
|
Raise Arm Off Window |
Square Plastic Button |
Lift the wiper arm
off the window until it remains in the raised position by itself. Locate the small square plastic button near the end of the wiper arm. |
|
Push In With Plastic Tool |
Slide Out Mounting Bracket |
Firmly push in the
square black plastic release button located at the center of the wiper
blade. . To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to use a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool. While holding in the square release button, gently pull the wiper blade up and out of the mounting bracket at the end of the wiper arm. |

Towel - Protect Glass |
Line Up New Wiper Blade |
Place a towel on
the windshield to protect the window from being cracked, shattered, chipped
and/or scratched just in case the metal wiper arm falls down on the glass
while you are changing the wiper blade. I recommend buying the AERO 24" + 19" combination wiper blade package since it has excellent reviews on Amazon specifically from other Passat and Jetta owners. Line up the new wiper blade and slide the plastic mount in to the metal bracket at the end of the wiper arm. |
|
"Click" In To Bracket |
Lower Arm To Windshield |
Make sure that the
new wiper blade mount "clicks" securely in to the metal bracket at the end
of the wiper arm. Double check that the new wiper blade is secure before moving on to the next steps. Gently lower the wiper arm down to the windshield. |
|
Press Down Wiper Stalk |
Wipers Return To Cowl |
Sit in the driver's
seat of your Passat, turn the ignition switch to the "On" position and
quickly press the wiper stalk down one time.
The wiper arms should move down to the cowl below the windshield. For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the windshield and applying a window treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X. For more, check out all of my
