This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016 model year) "New" VW Beetle in changing the windshield window wiper blades.

Owners of other Volkswagen Group vehicles such as the Passat, CC, Tiguan, Golf, Touareg, Jetta, GTI, SportWagen, Eos, Rabbit, Bora, Vento, Lavida, Coccinelle, Maggiolino, Fusca, Audi A3, A4, S4, A6, S6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, A5, S5, and TT may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM driver and passenger side wiper blades are both 22" (inches) in size. (There are also some 21" blades that will fit.)

A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part number are as follows: Trico 25-220, Rain-X 5079279, Ecogard XL22, Anco C-22-N or C-22-OE, PIAA 97055, and Bosch 3397009798 (21").

To place the windshield wiper arms in the "service position" to replace the blades, follow the steps below.

Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position but do not start the engine.

Turn off the ignition.

Press the windshield wiper lever down one time.

The wiper arms should swing up and stay in the service position.

Lift the wiper arm off the window until it remains in the raised position by itself.

Firmly push in the square black plastic release button located at the center of the wiper blade.

Place a towel on the windshield to protect the window from being cracked, shattered, chipped or scratched just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on the glass while you are replacing the wiper blade.

I recommend buying the Bosch 3397009798 wiper blades since they have excellent reviews from other Beetle owners on Amazon.

Line up the new wiper blade and slide the plastic mount in to the metal bracket at the end of the wiper arm.

Press Stalk Down - Wipers Return
Continue pushing in the new wiper blade until it "clicks" securely in to place.

Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm.

Gently lower the wiper arm back down to the windshield.

Sit in the driver's seat, turn the ignition switch to "On" and briefly press down the windshield wiper stalk down one time.

The wipers should move back to their original position.

For the best wiper performance, thoroughly clean off the windshield and apply a glass treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X.
