License Plate Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out license plate
light bulb on the bumper of a 2nd generation 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma.

This
automotive maintenance DIY tutorial was specifically written to
assist owners of the second generation (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008,
2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015) Toyota Tacoma pickup
truck in changing a burnt out license plate light bulb in the rear
bumper. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, RAV4, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Hilux, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The OEM replacement light bulb part number is 168. You may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # W5W, 2825, 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit. No tools are needed to change the license plate light bulbs. |

Look Under Rear Bumper |
Wire, Socket, Light Housing |
The first step is
to reach under the rear bumper and locate the license plate light bulb
socket attached to the back of the housing. If you have trouble locating the bulb socket, you may need to lie down on the garage floor and look under the bumper. |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Remove Bulb Socket |
Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. | |
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Old # 168 Light Bulb |
Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket. | |

Push In New # 168 Bulb |
Rear of Light Housing |
Push a new #
168 bulb straight in to the socket. If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 2825, W5W, 194, 158 or a compatible LED unit. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Bulb Socket Re-Installed |
Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. | |
Test New Light Bulbs |
New License Plate Lights |
Test the new
license plate light bulbs by turning on the headlights or by pressing the
"Unlock" button on the key fob. For more,
