This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) Toyota RAV4 compact SUV in replacing a burnt out vanity mirror light bulb or upgrading both bulbs to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Camry, Matrix, Yaris, Tacoma, Prius, Tundra, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, RX 350, FR-S, iQ, tC, xB, and xD may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement light bulb is part # 168 from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, Putco & PIAA.

You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the # 194, 2825, W5W or a brighter LED unit.

The only tool needed to access the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver.

Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the corner of the translucent plastic lens cover and the housing.

Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Avoid using excessive force.

The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

To avoid scratching or marring the plastic, wrap the blade of the screwdriver in a thin cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar tool.

Grasp the old vanity mirror light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
