This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) Toyota RAV4 in replacing a burnt out rear turn signal or reverse bulbs in the tail light assemblies.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion SUV, hatchback, minivan or crossover vehicles such as the Matrix, Prius, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, GX 460, RX 350, LX 570, iQ, xB, and xD may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Rear Turn Signal # 7440NA, 7440A, or 992 (Amber Colored T6 Wedge Base), and Reverse Light # 921.

They are available from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Lumapro and General.

No tools are needed to access either of the tail light bulbs.

Reverse & Signal Sockets
The first two steps are to open the back swing out cargo door and move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt out tail light bulb.

Locate the rectangular plastic access panel and press the two release tabs towards the front of the vehicle to release them.

Pull out the access panel and set it aside. If you are working in a dimly lit area, you may need a flashlight to see the two light bulb sockets.

The rear turn signal bulb socket is light grey and located just above the tan reverse bulb socket.
