This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) Toyota RAV4 in replacing a burnt out overhead map light bulb or upgrading both of the bulbs to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Camry, Matrix, Yaris, Tacoma, Prius, Tundra, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, RX 350, FR-S, iQ, tC, xB, and xD may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement map light bulb is part # 168 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA, Putco, and Eiko.

You can also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the 194, 158, 2825, W5W or a brighter LED unit.

The only tool needed to access the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver.

You may also use a knife, metal nail file or a plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the inner edge of the translucent plastic lens cover and the overhead console.

Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place. Only pry at the edge closest to the On/Off switch.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
