the headlight assembly near the front quarter panel. (This bulb can be
difficult to remove for people with larger hands.) Test New Headlight Bulb(s) |
Testing High Beam Bulb |
Turn Signal & Fog Light |
Test the new bulbs
by turning on the headlights, flashing the high beams, and activating the
hazard signals. The Front Turn Signal and Fog Light bulbs are contained in a separate housing at the bottom corner of the bumper. (Please note, this 2012 Prius was not equipped with fog lights.) To access either of these bulbs, you'll need a flathead screwdriver, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a 10mm socket with ratcheting wrench. |
||
Turn Wheels Opposite Side |
Wheel Well Liner |
Flathead - Unscrew Fastener |
Turn the steering
wheel all the way to the opposite side of the burnt out bulb that you'd like
to replace. Unscrew the black plastic wheel well fastener with a flathead screwdriver and remove the center plastic pin piece. Remove the Phillips head screw on the wheel well liner located near the top of the tire. |
||
Pull Out Plastic Fastener |
Plastic Under Engine Cover |
Remove Plastic Pop Rivet |
Move to underneath
the front bumper and remove the black plastic pop rivet that secures the
bottom edge of the wheel well by first prying out the center piece.
Then remove the 10mm screw with the socket and ratcheting wrench. Set the four fasteners aside in a safe place. |
||
Remove 10mm Screw |
Pull Back Wheel Well Liner |
1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise |
Pull back the black
plastic wheel well liner away from the front quarter panel. Reach in and rotate the light grey turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |
||
Pull Out Turn Signal Bulb |
Insert - 1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Fog Light (If Equipped) |
Pull the old turn
signal bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored
992 or
7440A bulb straight into the socket.
Insert the socket back into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. (If your Prius is equipped with fog lights, the bulb will be located either below the turn signal bulb or further inwards near the lower grille area of the bumper. In my experience, to remove an H16 or 5202 fog light bulb, you have to squeeze together the two outer release tabs with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the housing.) |
||
Test New Turn Signal Bulb |
Re-Insert 10mm Screw |
Push In Pop Rivet |
Test the new turn
signal bulb by activating the hazard signals.
Secure the bottom of the wheel well liner by replacing the 10mm screw and pop rivet. Then replace the black plastic fastener and Phillips head screw on the wheel well liner near the front tire. For more,
