How to replace the overhead map light
bulbs in a 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner SUV with picture illustrated instructions.

| This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 4th generation (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009) Toyota 4Runner SUV in replacing a burnt out
overhead map light bulb in the passenger compartment. Owners of other related Toyota or Lexus vehicles such as the Hilux, Tacoma, Land Cruiser, T100, SW4, FJ Cruiser, Fortuner and Lexus GX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement overhead map light bulbs are part # 168 from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, PIAA, GE, and ACDelco. You can also use a compatible brighter 168 LED bulb. The only tool needed to replace the map light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver. Use the blade of the screwdriver to gently pry out the light bulb lens cover from the overhead console. |

| Once the
translucent map light lens cover has been removed, you can pull the old #
168 bulb straight out of the socket.
If you have trouble getting a grip on the old bulb, try using a piece of sticky duct tape or put on a latex glove. Then push in a new # 168 bulb straight into the socket and test it by pushing the white button. If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try pulling it out and re-inserting it the other way in the socket. |

| Line up the translucent map light lens cover and insert the side closest to the center of the console first. | ||

| Then gently snap
the other side of the cover (closest to the outside of the vehicle) in
place. Test the new bulb again by pushing the map light bulb switch. For more, check out my
