Pry Out Center of Fastener
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 model years) Subaru Outback station wagon in changing a burnt out fog light bulb located in the front bumper cover.

Owners of other Subaru vehicles such as the Forester, Impreza, Legacy, XV Crosstrek, WRX, BRZ, SVX, Tribeca, Exiga, Trezia, Levorg and Baja may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement halogen fog light bulb part number is H11.

If you would like to have brighter fog lights choose H11 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Two Pop Rivets Removed
The first two steps are to move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out fog light bulb.

Then slide under the front bumper cover with a flathead screwdriver and/or a plastic pry bar tool.

There are two round black plastic pop rivet fasteners along the front edge of the black plastic access cover.

Gently pry out the center part of the fastener to unlock it.

Then pry out the base of the fastener to remove it from the plastic panel.

Repeat the process for the second fastener.

Set the two fasteners aside in a safe place.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) light bulb was a Sylvania H11 (also known as "Osram").

Avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen light bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the engine bay.

If you do get the new light bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Dry the bulb before installing it.

If you would like to have brighter fog lights, install some compatible H11 LED bulbs.
