This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Qashqai and the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport (USA) in changing a burnt out dome light bulb in the overhead housing attached to the headliner above the rear passenger seats.

Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Altima, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60, QX80 and Renault Kadjar may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement "festoon" style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, Bosch and Philips.

If you would like to have a brighter dome light that will also last much longer before burning out like the traditional incandescent bulb, install a DE3175 LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic parts or tearing the fabric headliner, you can either cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic trim panel removal tool.

Sit in the middle rear passenger seat of your SUV for the best access to the dome light housing.

Insert the flat head screwdriver in between the left side of the lens cover and the light housing (close to the "On / Off / Door" switch).

Very gently pry out the left side of the lens cover to release the retaining clips.

Swing down the left side of the lens cover.

Carefully remove the two plastic hooks on the right side of the lens cover from the slot on the right side of the housing.

Set the translucent plastic lens cover aside in a safe place.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Gently pull back the flexible metal electrical contact on the left side of the light bulb and pull it out of the socket.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) festoon style light bulb in this 2020 Rogue Sport was marked as part number Toshiba 12V8WAL:99.

If you installed an LED bulb, I recommend testing the new bulb before you re-place the lens cover.

To test the new bulb, move the "On / Off / Door" switch to the "On" position.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, remove it from the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Re-insert the two plastic hooks on the right side of the lens cover into the slot on the right side of the light housing.

Test New Light Bulb
Swing up the left side of the lens cover toward the light housing.

Gently push on the left side of the lens cover to snap in the retaining clips.

Double check that the lens cover is securely attached.

To test the new light bulb again, move the switch to the "On" position.

I recommend leaving the switch in the "Door" position so that the dome light will turn on when the driver door or any passenger door is opened.

Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your car's service records.
