This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second
generation 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Qashqai
and the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport (USA) in cleaning
or changing the A/C system's cabin air filter element located in the HVAC
blower motor housing. Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Altima, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60, QX80 and Renault Kadjar may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A few compatible replacement cabin air filters with their part numbers include the following: Spearhead BE-854, EcoGard XC10434, EPAuto CP854, Fram CF11854 and TYC 800196P. No tools are required to access and replace the filter. A wet/dry shop vacuum can be useful to clean out the slot in the HVAC blower motor housing or to clean and re-use the old filter. The first two steps are to open the front passenger door and move the seat all the way back to create more working room. Look under the glove box and towards the left by the center stack. Locate the rectangular shaped white plastic filter access cover with two semi-circle pull loops on the outer edge. |

Grasp Plastic Ring |
Pull Out Filter Cover |
Grasp the bottom
ring on the filter access cover and gently pull it out towards you. Try to avoid using excessive force. The cover should slide out relatively easily. |

Slide Out Old Air Filter |

Old Air Filter Removed |
Once the cover has
been removed, the outer edge of the old filter will be visible. Pinch the bottom outer corner of the old filter and slide it out of the slot. You may need to bend or compress the old filter a bit in order to remove it from the slot or route it down below the glove box. |
||
Inspect Old Air Filter |
Check Both Sides |
Clean With Vacuum |
Inspect both sides
of the old filter. If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with pollen, dust, sand, hair, leaves, twigs, soot, insects and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element. I recommend buying the Spearhead BE-854 cabin air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon from other Rogue Sport owners. If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum cleaner. |

OEM Part Number |
Calsonic Kansei |
Check Empty Filter Slot |
The OEM (original
equipment manufacturer) filter was marked part number Nissan Renault
27277-4BA0A (also known as 27277
4BA0A or Calsonic Kansei Corporation 272774BA0A). Check the slot in the HVAC blower motor housing for any large debris such as leaves or dragonflies. Clean out any debris with the crevice attachment of your vacuum cleaner. |

Orientate Air Flow Arrow |
Slide In New Air Filter |
Pop In Very Top Edge |
Look for an "Air
Flow" arrow on your new filter. Orientate the filter with the "Air Flow" arrow pointing back towards the rear of the SUV. Carefully slide the new filter into the slot. You might need to slightly bend or compress the filter to re-insert it. Make sure the top of the filter is popped in past the upper edge of the slot so that it expands to fill the entire space and filters all of the air passing through the A/C system. If you look at the 3rd picture in the row above (Picture # 21), you'll see that my filter was stuck at the top of the slot. So I had to go back and push it all the way in. |

Line Up Filter Cover |
Replace Filter Cover |
Push To Secure Clips |
Line up the white
plastic filter cover with the slot in the HVAC blower motor housing. Slide the cover back into place and push on it to secure the retaining clips. Make sure the filter cover is securely attached. |

Optional Screw / Missing? |
Filter Change Complete |
If you do a lot of
off-road driving, consider installing a small screw into the hole provided
on the rear bottom area of the filter cover to make sure it stays attached
even on the bumpiest roads. The screw was missing on this 2020 Rogue Sport or maybe Nissan decided to stop securing the filter cover to save weight and / or reduce cost. Be sure to write down the filter change in your SUV's service records. Enjoy the fresh clean air from your A/C system! The standard maintenance schedule in the owner's manual specifies that the "in-cabin microfilter" should be replaced every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or at least every 12 months. Please
