This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the 1st generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Kia
Soul in changing a burnt out vanity mirror light bulb in the
headliner. Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles with similar vanity mirror light bulb housings such as the Forte, Cadenza, Rio, Optima, Sedona, Sorento, Sportage, Sonata, Accent, Elantra, Veloster, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe and Genesis may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement "festoon" or "fuse" style light bulb is part number DE3175 (31mm in length) from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA. You may also be able to use the similar # 6418 (35mm long), 6423 (36mm), 6411 (41mm) or a compatible LED unit. The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing. |

Light Housing Removed |
Pull Out Old Bulb |
Empty Bulb Socket |
To remove either
the driver or passenger side vanity light bulb housings, insert the
screwdriver between the edge closest to the "On/Off" switch and the
headliner. Gently pry out the light housing and pull it down from the headliner. Pull back the metal electrical contact and remove the old bulb from the socket. |
||
Insert New # DE3175 Bulb |
New Bulb Installed |
Re-Insert Wires First |
Insert a new #
DE3175 bulb in to the socket.
If you are installing a polarized LED bulb and it doesn't work, try flipping it around 180 degrees in the socket. If you are using the slightly longer # 6418 (35mm) or 6411 (41mm in length) bulb, you may need to bend back one or both of the metal electrical contacts. |

Pop In Other Side |
Light Housing Re-Inserted |
Test New Light Bulb |
Re-insert the wires
and electrical connector side of the housing in to the headliner first and
then gently pop in the other side. Test the new light bulb by flipping the "On/Off" rocker switch to the "On" position. For more, check out my other
