This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 1st generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Kia Soul in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console or upgrading them both to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles with similar key fobs such as the Forte, Cadenza, Rio, Optima, Sedona, Sorento, Sportage, Sonata, Accent, Elantra, Veloster, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe and Genesis may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM map light bulbs are Toshiba part # W10W or Hyundai / Kia part number 1864310009N or 18643-10009-N. They can be purchased at your dealership.

I recommend buying the Satco S4553 11 watt bulb. It can easily be bought online at Amazon and it will be slightly brighter than the 10 watt OEM bulb.

You may also be able to use other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the 912, 168, 194, 2825, W5W or an LED.

The only tool needed to change the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, I'd recommend covering the tip of your flathead screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or use a plastic automotive panel tool.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the translucent plastic lens cover and the overhead console near the front edge.

Gently pry out the front edge and remove the lens cover. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it may be hot enough to burn your skin.

Grasp the old map light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Push a new Satco S4553 miniature wedge base bulb straight in to the socket.

You can also use the similar # 912 bulb.

Press the black plastic "On/Off" button to test the new bulb.

Testing Map Light Bulbs
Re-insert the two tabs on the rear edge of the lens cover in to the overhead console first.

Then gently pop the front edge of the lens cover in to place.

Test the map light bulbs by pressing the indentations near the rear edge to activate the "On/Off" switches.
