Headlight Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change the low beam, high beam,
turn signal & side marker light bulbs in the headlights of a 2009-2013 Kia Soul.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the 1st generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Kia
Soul in changing a burnt out low beam, high beam, turn signal or
front side marker light bulb in the headlights. Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles with similar headlight assemblies such as the Forte, Cadenza, Rio, Optima, Sedona, Sorento, Sportage, Sonata, Accent, Elantra, Veloster, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe and Genesis may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs for the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Kia Soul are as follows: Low / High Beam # 9003, Turn Signal # 64136 and Side Marker # 168. Replacement bulbs for the 2012 & 2013 Kia Soul with their part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # H11B, High Beam # H7, Turn Signal # 2357A or 2357NA and Front Side Marker Light # 168. No tools are needed to change any of the headlight bulbs. |

The approximate
locations of each bulb in the headlight housing are indicated on
Picture # 2
above. The Low Beam bulb is located near the center of the headlight assembly closer to the outer edge. Reach in behind the headlight and rotate the black plastic dust cover 1/4 turn counter clockwise before removing it. Set the cap aside in a safe place. |

Remove Old Low Beam Bulb |
Rotate the base of the old low beam bulb 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. | ||

Insert New Low Beam Bulb |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen low beam bulb with your fingers
or anything greasy in the engine bay.
If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with an alcohol moistened paper towel. Insert the new # H11B bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

High Beam - Inner Corner |
Replace the black
plastic dust cover by twisting it on in the clockwise direction. The High Beam bulb is located near the inner corner of the headlight housing. |

High Beam Bulb Exposed |
Reach in behind the headlight assembly and twist off the black plastic dust cap in the counter clockwise direction. | ||
Pull Off Power Plug |

Push In & Lift Up |
Pull the black
plastic power plug straight off the back of the old high beam bulb. The old high beam bulb is held in place by a hinged metal retaining arm. Slightly push in the right side of the retaining arm towards the front of the car to release the hook. |

Swing open the
retaining arm to the left side to release the old high beam bulb. Pull the old bulb straight out of the housing. |

Insert New H7 Bulb |
Swing Closed Retaining Arm |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen high beam bulb with your fingers
or anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the bulb dirty, wipe it
clean with an alcohol moistened paper towel. Insert the new H7 high beam bulb in to the socket. Swing the metal retaining arm closed from the left side over to the right and secure it to the hook. |

Turn Signal - Bottom Edge |
Push the power plug
on to the base of the new high beam bulb. Replace the plastic dust cap by twisting it on in the clockwise direction. The Turn Signal bulb is located at the bottom of the headlight housing near the outer edge. |

Remove Bulb Socket |
Rotate the black plastic tab on the base of the turn signal light bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. | ||

Side Marker - Outer Edge |
To remove the old
turn signal light bulb, push it down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn
counter clockwise before pulling it straight out of the socket. Insert a new # 2357A bulb ( down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. (The 2010 and 2011 Kia Soul requires a # 64136 turn signal light bulb.) The Front Side Marker light bulb is located at the outer edge of the headlight housing. |

Reach in behind the
headlight and rotate the small black plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counter
clockwise before pulling it straight out. Pull the old side marker bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 168 bulb. You may also use any other compatible miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 194, W5W, 2825 or a brighter LED unit. |

Re-insert the
socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. Test the new bulbs by turning on the headlights, flashing the high beams and activating the hazard signals. For more, check out my other
