This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the 1st generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Kia
Soul in changing a burnt out glove box light bulb. Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles with similar glove box light bulbs housings such as the Forte, Cadenza, Rio, Optima, Sedona, Sorento, Sportage, Sonata, Accent, Elantra, Veloster, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe and Genesis may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement "festoon" or "fuse" style bulb is part number 6418 from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, and PIAA. You may also use a compatible 6418 LED bulb that has an approximate length of 35mm. The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing. |

Pull Back Metal Contact |
The first two steps
are to sit in the front passenger seat and then open the glove box. To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or use a plastic panel pry tool. Carefully insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the left side of the light housing and gently pry it out of the glove box. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be
hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull back the metal electrical contact and remove the old light bulb. |

Re-Insert Right Side First |
Snap In Clip On Left |
Insert a new #
6418 bulb in to the socket.
You may also choose to use a brighter LED unit. (Tip: If the LED bulb won't work at first, try flipping it around in the opposite direction inside the socket.) Re-insert the wires and right side of the housing back in to the glove box first. |

Test New Light Bulb |
Glove Box Bulb Replaced |
Gently pop in the
retaining clip on the left side of the housing. Test the new light bulb by opening and closing the glove box. You might need to unlock the doors with the key fob to turn it back on since it turns off automatically after a few minutes. For more, check out my other
