This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the 1st generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Kia
Soul in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb. Owners of other Kia and Hyundai SUV, minivan or hatchback vehicles with similar tail light assemblies such as the Forte5, Rio, Sedona, Sorento, Sportage, Elantra GT, Accent, Veloster, Tucson, and Santa Fe may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement bulb is part number 6418 (35mm in length) from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Osram, PIAA and Eiko. You may also be able to use the slightly longer 41mm # 6411 bulb, the similar # 6461 (35mm) or a compatible LED unit. The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing. |

Slide Off Electrical Connector |
Power Plug |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to either cover the tip of
your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or use a plastic automotive
panel pry tool. Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the right side of the housing. Gently pry out the housing from the plastic cargo area panel. Press the release button on the power plug and slide it straight off the end of the light housing. |

Pull Back Metal Contact |
Old Bulb Removed |
Insert New # 6418 Bulb |
Be careful if the bulb was recently illuminated
since it may still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull back the metal spring electrical contact to release the old bulb from the socket. Insert a new # 6418 bulb in to the socket. (Tip - If you are using an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try flipping it around in the socket.) |

Push On Power Plug |
Re-Insert One Side |
Gently Pop In Light Housing |
Push the power plug
on until it clicks securely in to place. Re-insert one side of the housing in to the plastic panel first and then gently snap in the other side. For more, check out my other
