This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Kia Sorento SUV in cleaning or changing the engine air filter element in the Theta II 2.4 liter inline four cylinder motor.

Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles such as the Optima, Forte, Cadenza, K900, Rio, Sportage, Sedona, Soul, Elantra, Veloster, Sonata, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe, Genesis and Equus may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement engine air filters for the 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 model years with their part numbers are as follows:  Fram CA10881, Beck Arnley 042-1812, K&N 33-2448, Ecogard XA6124, Wix 49250, Mahle LX 3024, Hastings AF1434, Kia 28113-2P100, Premium Guard PA6124 and Pentius PABT2068.

Replacement engine air filters for the 2014 and 2015 Sorento model years are as follows: Hastings AF1596, Ecogard XA10007, Wix 49670, K&N 33-2493 and Fram CA11500.

No tools are needed to replace the engine air filter.

Pull Up Top Half of Air Box
Flip Open Access Door
Slide Out Old Air Filter
The engine air box is located in the right rear area of the engine bay.

Flip down the two metal latches to release the top half of the air box.

Gently pull the top half of the air box up and towards the rear of the vehicle.

Flip open the rectangular hatch to access the old engine air filter.

Slide the old filter straight out of the slot.

Inspect Both Sides

Clean With Vacuum
Inspect both sides of the old filter.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, insects, leaves, twigs, pollen, hair and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying either the Fram CA10881 filter (for the 2010-2013 model years) or the Fram CA11500 for the 2014 and 2015 model years since both of them have excellent reviews on Amazon.
