This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and perhaps
also the updated 2019 and 2020 model years) Kia Sedona minivan in
replacing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal, reverse or side
marker light bulb in the tail light housings. Owners of other Kia or Hyundai models such as the Grand Carnival, Sorento, Sportage, Niro, Soul, K900, Stinger, Cadenza, Optima, Rio, Forte, Genesis, Sonata, Ioniq, Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra and Accent may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Brake # 2357 (or P21W), Rear Turn Signal # 2357, Reverse # 921 (or W16W), Rear Side Marker # 168 (or W5W) and Parking Light # 2357. The tools needed to access and replace the tail light bulbs are either a standard Phillips head screwdriver or a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and a flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool. |

Trim Cover Removed |
The first two steps
are to move to the side of the minivan with the burnt out tail light bulb
and then open the tailgate door for the cargo area. Locate the two small notches on the black plastic trim cover on the inner edge of the tail light housing. Insert either a flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool to into the two notches on the rear edge of the black plastic trim piece and gently pry it out. Set the trim cover aside in a safe place. |

Pull Off Tail Light Housing |
Two Metal Pegs & Holes |
Set the two screws
aside in a safe place. Gently pull the tail light housing straight off the rear corner of the vehicle. The tail light housing is still held in place by two metal pegs or "spikes" that are inserted into plastic grommets on the rear corner of the metal body panel. If you have trouble removing the tail light housing, try gently wiggling it back and forth while pulling. You may also need to use the plastic pry bar tool to gently pry along the front outer edge of the housing to dislodge the metal peg friction fasteners. |
||
Turn Over - Access Sockets |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Turn Signal Bulb Socket |
Carefully turn over
the tail light housing to access the bulb sockets. You may choose to place a towel on the rear bumper cover to protect the plastic lens and prevent it or the paint from being scratched. The rear turn signal light bulb socket is located at the bottom of the housing. Rotate the light grey plastic turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out. |
