Kia Sedona
Cargo Area Light Bulb Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out cargo area
light bulb near the tailgate in a 3rd generation 2015 to 2018 Kia Sedona.
2015 Sedona Cargo Light |
Insert Flathead Screwdriver |
This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and perhaps
also the revised 2019 and 2020 model years) Kia Sedona minivan in
changing a burnt out overhead cargo area light bulb near the
tailgate door. Owners of other Kia or Hyundai models such as the Grand Carnival, Sorento, Sportage, Niro, Soul, K900, Stinger, Cadenza, Optima, Rio, Forte, Genesis, Sonata, Ioniq, Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra and Accent may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement "festoon" style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Maxell and Eiko. You could also use a brighter DE3175 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the dome light bulbs is a small plastic pry bar tool or a flathead screwdriver. |

Lens Cover Removed |
Old Light Bulb Exposed |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either covering the tip of your
screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic
pry bar tool. Insert the blade of the tool in between the rear edge of the lens cover and the overhead light housing. Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place. Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Old Light Bulb Removed |
If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The old bulb
might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Grasp the old light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the bulb socket. If you plan on keeping your minivan for a long time, I recommend buying the Sylvania DE3175 LL (long life) light bulbs. I have always found them to be the longest lasting bulbs. |

Push In New Light Bulb |
Re-Insert Tabs Front Edge |
Gently push a new DE3175
light bulb straight into the socket. If you would like to have a brighter cargo area light, install a compatible DE3175 LED bulb. Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try removing it, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when installed in the correct orientation. |
|
Gently Pop In Lens Cover |
Test New Light Bulb |
Line up the lens
cover with the light housing. Re-insert the two plastic tabs on the front edge (closest to the front of the car) into place first. Then gently snap in the retaining clips on the rear edge of the lens cover (closest to the tailgate door). Slide the "On / Door / Off" switch to the "On" position to test the new light bulb. I recommend leaving the switch in the "Door" position so that the cargo area light will turn on when ever a passenger door or the tailgate door is opened. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records. For more,
