This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2009 [in Korea & China], 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013) Kia Forte in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Kia or Hyundai vehicles such as the Optima, Cadenza, K900, Sorento, Sportage, Sedona, Soul, Elantra, Veloster, Sonata, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe, Genesis, Cerato, Spectra, Accent, Sephia, i20, i30, i40 and Equus may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "festoon" or "fuse" style bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

You can also use a brighter DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

Old Bulb Exposed
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or you can use a plastic automotive panel removal tool.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the lens cover and the overhead console near the front edge.

Gently pry out the retaining clips to release the cover.

Pull out the plastic tabs near the rear edge of the lens cover.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Testing Map Light Bulbs
Line up the plastic lens cover with the bulb housing.

First re-insert the plastic tabs on the rear edge of the lens cover in to the housing.

Then gently pop in the retaining clips on the front edge of the lens cover.

Test the new map light bulbs by pressing the indentations near the rear part of the lens cover to activate the "On/Off" switches.
