This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and probably also the refreshed 2018 model year) Jeep Cherokee in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb or upgrading them both to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and RAM vehicles such as the Compass, Renegade, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Patriot, 500, Town & Country, 200, 300, Pacifica, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, RAM 1500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster Van may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base bulb is part number 2825.

You can also use a brighter 2825 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

The Cherokee is equipped with two cargo area lights with one housing on either side of the vehicle.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar tool.

Locate the small notch on the front edge of the light housing (closer to the front of the car).

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in to the notch and gently pry out the housing.

Press in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector before sliding it straight out of the socket.
