This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020) Infiniti QX60 luxury SUV in cleaning or changing the engine air filter element for the VQ35DE 3.5 liter V6 engine. (The steps should be the same or very similar for the 2.5L I4 engine in the hybrid models.)

Owners of other Infiniti and Nissan vehicles such as the JX35, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX80, Pathfinder, Murano, Rogue, Armada, Kicks, Frontier, Titan, NV, NV200, 370Z, GT-R, Leaf, Maxima, Altima, Sentra and Versa might also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Infiniti / Nissan part number is 16546-V0100 (also known as 16546 V0100 or 16546V0100).

A few compatible replacement aftermarket engine air filters for the VQ35DE 3.5L V6  with their part numbers are as follows: Fram CA4309, Purolator A24278, Wix 46116, PotAuto MAP 6039, EcoGard XA4278 and Mahle LX 2561.

No tools are required to access and replace the filter.

The first two steps are to open the hood and move to the right (driver) side of the engine bay.

The engine air filter box is situated in between the brake fluid reservoir and the electrical fuse box just behind the 12V automotive battery.

Inspect Both Sides
Slide the old air filter out of the bottom half of the air box.

Inspect both sides of the old filter.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with soot, pollen, dirt, dust, leaves, insects, twigs, hair and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the Fram CA4309 engine air filter since it has excellent reviews from other Infiniti owners.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out any large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum cleaner.

Filter Change Complete
Flip up the two metal latches and "snap" them into place over the top half of the air box.

Double check that the air box is flush together at every edge with no part of the new filter visible.

Be sure to write down the filter change in your SUV's service records.

The service interval specification in the owner's manual for the engine air filter is to change it every 30,000 miles (48,000 KM) or at least every 36 months (3 years).
