This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and
2017) Hyundai Veloster in changing a burnt out vanity mirror light
bulb located above the sun visor in a housing attached to the
headliner. Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Ioniq, Genesis, Tiburon, ix20, i20, i30, i40, Veracruz, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento, Sedona, Rio, Forte and Spectra may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA. You can also use a brighter DE3175 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is either a small plastic pry bar tool or a flathead screwdriver. |

Pull Out Light Housing |
Light Housing Removed |
Pull Back Electrical Contact |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces or tearing the fabric headliner, I recommend
either using a plastic automotive
pry bar tool or cover the
tip of your flathead screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth. The procedure for removing the light housing on either the driver or passenger side is the same. Insert the blade of the tool in between the plastic light housing and the headliner on the edge closest to the "On/Off" switch. Gently pry out the light housing and remove it from the headliner. If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. It might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Gently pull back the flexible metal electrical contact before pulling the old bulb straight out of the socket. (The OEM Hyundai / Kia bulb was marked as part number KHA 12V5W.) |
||
Remove Old Light Bulb |
Push In New Light Bulb |
Push On Power Plug |
Push a new number
DE3175 festoon light bulb in to the socket. Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it and flipping it 180 degrees in the socket. The LED bulb might be polarized. If you removed the electrical connector, push it back on to the light housing. |
||
Re-Insert Wires First |
Gently Pop In Light Housing |
Test New Light Bulb |
Re-insert the wires
in to the opening in the headliner. Gently pop in the retaining clip on the edge of the light housing closest to the "On/Off" switch. To test the new vanity mirror light bulb, move the rocker switch to the "On" position. For more,
