This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Chevy Sonic in changing a burnt out license
plate light bulb in the underside of the trunk lid. Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Traverse, Tahoe, GMC Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, Enclave and Holden Barina may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement license plate light bulb is part number 2825 from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko. If you would like to have brighter license plate lights, install some compatible 2825 LED bulbs. The only tool needed to change the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the housing. |

1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise |
Remove Bulb Socket |
Pull Out Old # 2825 Bulb |
Insert the blade of
the small flathead screwdriver in to the edge of the license plate light
bulb housing. Gently pry out the housing and remove it from the trunk lid. If you have trouble prying out the housing, try inserting the screwdriver in to the opposite edge. Do not use excessive force, the housing should pop out relatively easily. Rotate the black plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. |

Push In New Light Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Re-Insert Bulb Housing |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new number
2825 bulb. You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the # 168, 194, W5W or a compatible LED unit. Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in to place. Insert the side of the housing with the wires in first. |

Pop In To Trunk Lid |
Test New License Bulbs |

Then gently snap in
the other side of the housing to engage the retaining clip. Test the new license plate light bulbs by turning on the parking lights or the headlights. For more,
