This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Chevy Sonic in changing a burnt out overhead
dome light bulb. Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Traverse, Tahoe, GMC Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, Enclave and Holden Barina may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement festoon or "fuse style" dome light bulb is part number 6411 available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, and PIAA. If you would like to have a brighter dome light, install a compatible 6411 LED bulb. The only tool needed to change the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the dome light bulb housing from the headliner. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |

Insert New Bulb |
To avoid scratching
the plastic surfaces, cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro
fiber cloth. Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the edge of the dome light bulb housing and the headliner fabric. Gently pry out the housing and remove it from the headliner. Pull the old light bulb straight out of its socket and insert a new # 6411 bulb. Make sure that the bulb is securely installed in between the two metal electrical contacts. (Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try flipping it around in the socket.) |

Re-Insert Light Housing |
Pop In Light Housing |
Test New Dome Light Bulb |
Re-insert the wires
on the left side of the housing in to the hole in the headliner first. Then gently snap the other side of the dome light housing in to place. Test the new bulb by moving the rocker switch to the "On" position. Then slide the switch to the "Door" position so that the dome light will turn on whenever a passenger door is opened. For more,
