This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2nd generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in replacing a burnt out overhead map light bulb.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the GMC Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, Chevy Colorado, Avalanche, Express, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Volt, Malibu, Impala, SS, Camaro, Corvette, Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, and Enclave may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement bulb is part number 212-2 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE and Eiko.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible 212-2 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access the map light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the lens cover.

Pull Out Old Bulb
To protect the plastic surfaces from scratches, wrap the blade of the small flathead screwdriver with a thing micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the flathead screwdriver in to the small notches at the front edge of the map lights lens cover.

Gently pry out the lens cover at both notches. Do not use excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.
