Tail Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out brake, rear
turn signal or reverse bulb in the tail lights of a 2009 to 2015 Ford Fiesta
hatchback.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the sixth generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014,
2015 and possibly also the 2016 model year) Ford Fiesta hatchback in
changing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal or reverse bulb in the
tail light assemblies. Owners of other Ford or Lincoln vehicles such as the Focus, Fusion, C-Max, Mustang, Escape, Transit Connect, Edge, Flex, Explorer, Expedition, Taurus, F-150, EcoSport, MKC, MKZ, MKS, MKX, MKT and the Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Brake # 3157K, Rear Turn Signal 3757NAK (or 3157NA) and Reverse Light # 921 (or W16W). The tools needed to complete this procedure include a star bit Torx T25 screwdriver and a plastic automotive panel pry tool. |

This guide was
created with a Fiesta hatchback. The steps should be similar for the sedan
models. Just open the trunk lid, pry out any plastic fasteners and pull back
the trunk carpet liner to access the bulb sockets. Open the tailgate door on the rear end of the hatchback and move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt out bulb. Remove the two screws along the inner edge of the tail light housing by turning them counterclockwise with a Torx T25 star bit screwdriver. Set the two screws aside in a safe place. |

Pull Off Tail Light Housing |
The tail light
housing is still held in place to the rear corner of the vehicle by two pegs
or "spikes" inserted in to plastic grommets. Try to pull the tail light housing straight off the rear of the vehicle. If you have trouble removing it, carefully pry along the outer edge with a plastic automotive panel tool to loosen the two peg friction fasteners. |

Turn Over Assembly |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Brake Light Bulb Socket |
Turn over the the
housing and rest it on the bumper to access the bulb sockets. The Brake Light bulb socket is located at the middle of the housing. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
Push In New # 3157K Bulb |
Re-Insert Bulb Socket |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new #
3157K or
3157 bulb. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

The Rear Turn
Signal bulb socket is located near the bottom inner edge of the housing. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. |

Push In New Amber Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored #
3757NAK or
3157NA bulb. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it one quarter turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Reverse Bulb Socket |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Old # 921 (W16W) Bulb |
The Reverse Bulb
socket is located near the bottom outer edge of the housing. Rotate the socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket. |

Push In New # 921 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Two Plastic Grommets |
Push a new #
921 bulb straight in to the socket. Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Line Up Pegs & Grommets |
Push On Tail Light Housing |
Tighten Top T-25 Screw |
Line up the two
metal pegs or "spikes" on the rear outer edge of the tail light assembly
with their corresponding grommets on the vehicle. Carefully push the tail light housing back in to place. |

Tighten Torx Clockwise |
Tail Light Assembly Replaced |
Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Replace the two
Torx T-25 screws and tighten them in the clockwise direction until they are
snug. Try to avoid over tightening the screws to prevent from cracking the plastic inner edge of the tail light housing. Test the new tail light bulbs by having someone step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. For more, check out my other
