This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the second generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012) Ford
Escape SUV in replacing the key fob battery. Owners of other Ford, Lincoln, Mercury or related Mazda vehicles such as the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Taurus, Mustang, Edge, Explorer, C-Max, Expedition, F-150, E-150, E-350 Wagon, Flex, Transit Connect, MKZ, MKX, MKS, MKT, Milan, Grand Marquis, Mariner, Mountaineer, Navigator, and Mazda Tribute may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement coin, "watch" or "button" cell type battery is part number CR2032 from manufacturers such as Duracell, Sony, Energizer, Rayovac, Maxell and Panasonic. The only tool needed to replace the key fob battery is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. You could also use a key, knife, nail file or a coin. |
Insert the blade of
the flathead screwdriver into the notch at the bottom left of the key fob
near the red "Panic" button. Gently pry apart the two halves of the key fob and set the back cover aside. Turn over the key fob and tap out the old battery or gently pry it out with the flathead screwdriver. (Avoid damaging the metal electrical contacts or the green circuit board.) |
Push a new
CR2032 3V coin cell battery into the key fob. Line up the back cover over the key fob and gently snap the two halves together. |
Make sure that the two halves of the key fob are flush together all the way around. Test the new key fob battery by standing near your Escape while pressing the "Lock" or "Unlock" buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash. For more, please check out my
