This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Ford EcoSport compact SUV in taking off the plastic interior door panels in order to upgrade the OEM speakers, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty electrical switch or change a broken power window motor.

Owners of other Ford or Lincoln vehicles such as the Fiesta, B-Max, Escape, Edge, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Expedition, Transit, Focus, Mondeo, S-Max, Puma, Kuga, Endura, Everest, Ka, Figo, Endeavour, Aviator, Corsair, Nautilus and Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The tools needed to complete this procedure include a plastic pry bar tool, a Torx T20 screwdriver and a small flat head screwdriver such as from a precision screwdriver set.

The first two steps are to lower the power window all the way down and fully open the door.

If you live in a very cold climate, I recommend either moving the SUV into a heated garage or wait for a warmer day to perform this procedure. Plastic becomes brittle in cold weather and can easily break.

The first piece we'll be removing is the long silver plastic trim cover that runs along the outer edge of the arm rest.

There is a plastic hook at the rear edge of the silver trim cover, so do NOT pry out the rear edge!

Insert the plastic pry bar tool in between the center of the silver plastic trim cover and the armrest.

Take your time and do not use excessive force. The retaining clips should pop out relatively easily

Do not pry near the rear edge of the trim cover. There is a plastic hook at the rear edge that might break off.

Set the silver trim cover aside in a safe place.

Move to the chrome silver colored door opener handle. Locate the plastic trim cover situated behind the door opener handle.

Once all of the electrical connectors have been detached, set the plastic door panel aside in a safe place.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) front door speaker is located at the front bottom corner of the metal door frame.

They can be replaced with aftermarket car speakers in the following sizes: 6 3/4" and 6 1/2".

Please verify the correct speaker sizes before buying new ones. They may vary depending on your vehicle's model year, trim level and country where it was manufactured.
