This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Ford EcoSport compact SUV in changing a burnt out dome or map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Ford or Lincoln vehicles such as the Fiesta, B-Max, Escape, Edge, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Expedition, Transit, Focus, Mondeo, S-Max, Puma, Kuga, Endura, Everest, Ka, Figo, Endeavour, Aviator, Corsair, Nautilus and Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (also known as W5W) which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Toshiba, Bosch and Philips.

If you'd like to have brighter dome and map lights, install some 2825 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is either a flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you can either wrap your screwdriver in a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic trim panel removal tool.

Insert the blade of the flat head screwdriver in between the light housing and the overhead console.

Very gently and carefully pry out the light housing. Avoid using excessive force!

You may need to remove and re-insert the screwdriver in several locations to fully release all of the retaining clips.

Once all of the clips have been released, lower the light housing assembly down out of the overhead console.

There are three round black plastic bulb sockets.

The socket in the middle contains the "dome" light bulb. The left and right side sockets contain the map light bulbs.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The old bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) part number of the miniature wedge base light bulbs in this 2020 EcoSport was "W5W".

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock
Push a new number 2825 light bulb straight into the socket.

If you'd like to have brighter dome and map lights, install some compatible replacement 2825 LED bulbs.

Re-insert the bulb socket into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction to secure it into place.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb, I recommend testing it before you replace the light housing. If the bulb doesn't work, remove it from the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.
