This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the "new" Type 312 (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015) Fiat 500 supermini car in changing a burnt out map (A.K.A. "dome") light bulb in the overhead console or upgrading them both to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles such as the 4C, Giulia, 200, 300, Town & Country, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, Compass, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Renegade, Cherokee, Patriot, 1500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "festoon" or "fuse" type bulb is part number 6461 or 6418 which are available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible 6461 LED bulbs or 6418 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the map light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or you can use a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool.

Gently pry out the rear edge of the overhead console with the flathead screwdriver.

You may need to pry at more than one location along the rear edge to release the metal retaining clips.

Pull the light housing out of the headliner.

Gently pry open the left side of the white plastic cover.

Swing open the hinged white plastic cover from the left side over to the right.

Test New Map Light Bulbs
Gently snap in the metal retaining clips on the rear edge of the housing.

Test the new map light bulbs by moving the rocker switches to the "On" position.

I recommend moving the left (driver) side switch to the center "Door" position so that the two map / dome lights will turn on when either the driver or passenger door is opened.
