This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the updated (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) Dodge Avenger sedan in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb in the trunk.

Owners of other Chrysler Group sedan vehicles with similar cargo area light housings such as the Dart, Challenger, Charger, 200, and 300 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "rigid loop base" type light bulb is part number 562 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA, Eiko and ACDelco.

If you would like to have a brighter trunk light, install a compatible 562 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing from the metal roof of the trunk.

Release Power Plug
The first step is to gently pull down the carpet trunk liner away from the metal panel to access the light housing.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the right side of the housing and gently pry it out of the trunk.

Press the release button on the power plug with your finger nail or the tip of small flathead screwdriver before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Install a new number 562 "rigid loop" light bulb in to the socket. You may also choose to use a brighter LED unit.

I'd recommend buying the Sylvania 562 LL long life light bulbs since they tend to last a very long time.

Push the power plug back in to the socket.

Re-insert the wires and plug on the left side of the housing in to the roof of the trunk first.

Gently snap in the retaining clip on the right side of the housing in to the trunk.

Replace the grey carpet trunk liner over the housing.
