Owners of other Chrysler Group vehicles with similar map light housings such as the Dart, Challenger, Durango, Charger, Grand Caravan, 200, 300, RAM C/V Tradesman, Jeep Patriot, Compass and Cherokee may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "festoon" style bulb is part number 578 from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible 578 LED bulbs.

(Some models may use the miniature wedge base type light bulbs such as the # 2825, 168, 194 and W5W.)

The only tool needed to replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the hinged lens cover.

Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch and gently pry open the lens cover.

Swing the hinged lens cover open from the right side to the left.

The right side of the housing may slightly come out of the headliner.

If the bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it may be hot enough to burn your skin.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

(Some Avenger models may use the miniature wedge base # 2825 map light bulbs.)

(Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try flipping it around in the socket.)

If the right side of the light housing fell out of the headliner, push it back in to place.

Gently snap in the small plastic tabs on the left side of the cover.

Test the new map light bulbs by pressing the "On/Off" buttons.
