This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Chrysler 200 sedan in changing a burnt out overhead map light bulb or upgrading them both to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or RAM vehicles such as the Avenger, 300, Town & Country, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Compass, 1500, 2500, 3500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "rigid loop" or "festoon" style bulb is part number 578 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko or PIAA.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible replacement 578 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to change the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the hinged plastic lens cover.

Pull Out Old Bulb
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of the screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

The translucent plastic lens cover is hinged on the right (passenger) side and there is a small notch on the left (driver) side.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the left side of the lens cover and gently pry it open.

Swing the hinged lens cover open to the right to access the two map light bulbs.

If the bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your skin.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Push In New # 578 Bulb
Push a new rigid loop or "festoon" style # 578 bulb straight in to the socket.

(Tip - If you install a brighter LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try flipping it around in the socket.)

Test New Map Light Bulbs
Swing the hinged lens cover closed from the right side over to the left.

Gently pop in the left side of the lens cover in to the map light bulb housing.

Test the new map light bulbs by pressing the round black plastic "On/Off" buttons.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
