Headlight Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a low beam, high beam,
front turn signal or side marker light bulb in a 2001 to 2006 Acura MDX.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically created to assist
owners of the first generation (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006)
Acura MDX in changing a burnt out low beam, high beam, front turn
signal or front side marker light bulbs in the headlight assemblies. Owners of other Acura or Honda vehicles such as the RDX, ILX, TLX, RLX, TL, CL, RSX, RL, TSX, ZDX, NSX, Integra, Pilot, Accord, Civic, Fit, Clarity, CR-V, CR-Z, HR-V, Odyssey, Element and Ridgeline may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # H11, High Beam 9005 (or HB3), Front Turn Signal # 3457 and Front Side Marker # 168. No tools are needed to access and replace any of the light bulbs in either the driver or passenger side headlights. |

The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out
headlight bulb. The low beam headlight is situated near the center of the housing and resembles a "cloudy eye". Reach in behind the headlight assembly and locate the base of the old low beam bulb. Push in the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding it straight off the base of the old bulb. |

Rotate the base of
the old low beam bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise to unlock it.
Then pull the old bulb straight out of the housing. |

Insert New Low Beam |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or
anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Insert the new number H11 low beam bulb into the headlight housing. Rotate the base of the new bulb 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. |

Slide the power
plug straight on to the base of the new light bulb until it clicks securely
into place. The high beam light bulb is located closer to the inner edge of the housing. |

Push in the release tab on the blue plastic electrical connector before sliding it down and off the base of the old high beam bulb. | ||

Rotate the base of the old high beam bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. | ||

Push On Power Plug |
Avoid touching the
glass part of the new halogen high beam light bulb with your fingers or
anything greasy in the engine bay.
If you do get the new bulb dirty, clean it with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Insert a new number 9005 (also known as # HB3) high beam bulb into the housing. Rotate the new bulb 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction to secure it in place. Push the blue plastic electrical connector straight on to the base of the new high beam bulb until it clicks securely into place. |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
The front turn
signal light is located closer to the outer edge of the housing with the
amber colored lens (orange / yellow). Rotate the grey plastic turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Sylvania 3457K - Clear |
Gently pull the old
turn signal bulb straight out of the socket. If you have trouble removing the old light bulb, try gently rocking or wiggling it back and forth while pulling it straight out. |

Empty Bulb Housing |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Push a new number
3457 bulb straight into
the socket.
If you would like to have brighter front turn signal lights, install some compatible 3457 LED bulbs. Re-insert the bulb socket into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Outer Edge - Side Marker |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
The front side
marker light is located at the outer edge of the housing. Rotate the small tan colored plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. (My front side marker socket was covered in dark black soot.) |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Push In New Light Bulb |
Empty Bulb Housing |
Pull the old light
bulb straight out of the socket. Push a new miniature wedge base number 168 light bulb straight into the socket. If you would like to have brighter front side marker lights, install some compatible 168 LED bulbs. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Test New Headlight Bulbs |
Testing High Beam Light |
Re-insert the front
side marker bulb socket into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. To test the new light bulbs, turn on the parking lights, turn on the headlights, activate the hazard signals and flash the high beams. Be sure to record the bulb change in your SUV's service records. For more,
