This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and the updated 2023 model year) Toyota RAV4 SUV in changing the rear wiper blade on the back windshield window.

Owners of other Toyota and Lexus vehicles such as the Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Prius, Avalon, C-HR, GR86, Venza, Sienna, Sequoia, 4Runner, IS 250, IS 300, IS 350, ES 350, GS 350 and GX 460 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM rear wiper blade size in inches is 12" and the Toyota part number is either 85242-0R070 or 85242-72010.

A few other compatible replacement aftermarket rear wiper blades with their par numbers include the following: Bosch H307, Rain-X 850004 R12A and Trico 12-A.

No tools are required to remove and replace the rear wiper blade.

The first step is to gently pull the plastic base cover off the base of the wiper arm.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The base cap should pop off relatively easily.

Swing open the base cap. This will allow the wiper arm to freely rotate away from the back window.

Rotate Away Old Blade
Lift the wiper arm off the window until it remains in the raised position by itself.

Gently rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm until you feel some resistance.

"C" Shaped Socket
Continue rotating the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm until you feel the mounting bar "pop" out of the "C" shaped socket.

This should require firm pressure but not excessive force. The mounting bar should pop out of the "C" shaped socket relatively easily.

Push Bar Into Socket
Line up the new wiper blade with the wiper arm. The rubber blade should be facing away from the back window.

I recommend buying the Bosch H307 12" rear wiper blade since it has excellent reviews on Amazon from other RAV4 owners.

Reinsert the mounting bar in the center of the new wiper blade into the "C" shaped socket.

Rotate the new wiper blade towards the wiper arm.

You should feel the mounting bar snap into the "C" shaped socket.

Carefully lower the wiper arm and blade back down to the back windshield window.

Swing the base cap closed and push on it to secure the retaining clips.

You should feel or hear the base cap "click" securely into place.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the window and applying a glass treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X.

Be sure to write down the blade change in your vehicle's service records.
